Mid Wales Opera Training, Outreach & Education Projects
Alongside our core touring activity, Mid Wales Opera develops and runs training, outreach and education projects: all with the twin aims of introducing more people of all ages to opera and of providing training and development opportunities for young professionals working in opera.
We offer pre- and post-performance talks, free-of-charge to ticket holders. Given by a company member - often the director or conductor - these talks offer a real insight into the performance. These talks are indicated on the tour schedule. We also work with our venues to offer workshops and master-classes to schools and other community groups: once again offering an opportunity to get to know a little more about opera in general, and about the touring production in particular.
We also run larger-scale projects and programmes.
In 2012 we ran our first, fully-fledged Young Artists Programme: eight young singers from across the UK (and further afield) joined the company for three action-packed weeks in August.
Noye's Fludde is a Wales-wide, large scale community opera programme which we toured between October 2011 and September 2013. At its core is Benjamin Britten’s wonderful opera based on the story of Noah's Ark: in our production the story is brought bang up-to-date with environmental issues at its heart.
