Johnny is thrilled to be returning to Mid Wales Opera after performing in 2019’s production of Mrs Peachum’s Guide to Love and Marriage. Elsewhere he has performed for opera companies including English National Opera, Opera di Roma, Opera Philadelphia, Opéra National de Lorraine, Scottish Opera and others, particularly Music Theatre Wales, for whom he has sung lead roles in operas by Philip Glass, Pascal Dusapin and Peter Eötvös. Recent recordings include The Trial by Philip Glass, a Vaughan Williams disc titled “Purer than Pearl”, Fauré with the Orchestra of St John’s, and recordings of contemporary English songs for Navona Records and Divine Art Recordings.
Only a few months ago we thought Mid Wales Opera was finished. Now, thanks to a funding lifeline from Powys County Council, we are within touching distance of having a sustainable plan to keep on producing live and local opera across Wales for at least three years.
