Matthew studied at the University of Huddersfield and the Guildhall School of Music and Drama under the tutelage of John Evans. Matthew’s operatic roles include First Nazarene Salome (Royal Opera House), Sacristan Tosca, Don Ferrando Fidelio, Doctor Grenvil La Traviata (Opera North), Leporello Don Giovanni, Colline La Boheme, Osmin Die Entführung aus dem Serail (English Touring Opera), and Gremin Eugene Onegin (Grange Park Opera). Matthew has also performed with Scottish Opera, Welsh National Opera, Mid Wales Opera, Grange Park Opera, West Green Opera, Opera Holland Park and Hyogo Performing Arts Center, Japan. Future plans include Don Pedro Beatrice et Benedicte (Mid Wales Opera) and Old Man Aleko (Opera North).
Only a few months ago we thought Mid Wales Opera was finished. Now, thanks to a funding lifeline from Powys County Council, we are within touching distance of having a sustainable plan to keep on producing live and local opera across Wales for at least three years.
