Richard Studer

Biography

Richard made his professional opera debut in 1994 at The Bristol Old Vic. His repertoire spans from Monteverdi to Philip Glass at festivals and theatres across the UK, including Longborough Festival Opera where he has directed both Britten and Janácek. He is co-founder and Artistic Director of Opera Project with whom he has had a longstanding collaboration with the award winning Tobacco Factory Theatres, Bristol. Equally at home in music theatre, recent productions include Bernstein’s Candide for West Green House Opera. Richard is Artistic Director of Mid Wales Opera. Productions for MWO: The Magic Flute, Eugene Onegin, The Bear, L’heure espagnole, Tosca, Dido & Aeneas, Mrs Peachum’s Guide to Love and Marriage, The Marriage of Figaro, Il tabarro and La bohème.

Only a few months ago we thought Mid Wales Opera was finished. Now, thanks to a funding lifeline from Powys County Council, we are within touching distance of having a sustainable plan to keep on producing live and local opera across Wales for at least three years.
