Nicholas Folwell has sung the role of Alberich Der Ring des Nibelungen for Nationale Reisopera, Opéra d’Angers-Nantes, Opéra de Dijon, Den Nye Opera, Welsh National Opera and Scottish Opera. Other International career highlights have included Dreieinigkeitsmoses Aufstieg und Fall der Stadt Mahagonny (Nantes), Koroviev Der Meister und Margarita by York Höller (World première, Paris), Ottokar Der Freischütz (Zwingenberger Festival), and Marullo Rigoletto (Frankfurt). He made his Royal Opera début as Harašta The Cunning Little Vixen, returning to perform Nachtigall Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg and Antonio Le nozze di Figaro and his many roles for English National Opera include Blond Eckbert, Papageno, Tonio and Falke. Recent engagements include Kallenbach Satyagraha for ENO, The Notary Ariadne auf Naxos, Ortel Die Meistersinger von Nurnberg and Der Haushofmeister Der Rosenkavalier for Glyndebourne Festival, Alcindoro La Bohème for Grange Park Opera, Filip The Jacobin at Buxton Festival, Priest in the world première of The Trial by Philip Glass for Music Theatre Wales and Baron Douphol La Traviata for Glyndebourne On Tour.
Only a few months ago we thought Mid Wales Opera was finished. Now, thanks to a funding lifeline from Powys County Council, we are within touching distance of having a sustainable plan to keep on producing live and local opera across Wales for at least three years.
